They will do Homework on Lab Time:

Preparing Flow Sheets in class
Learning Theory Notes in class
Researching in class
Re-learning Formulas in class

They will lose time by:

Making errors and starting over
Spending time in the penalty box
Visiting instead of working
Loafing & daydreaming

They will miss class for:

Family vacations
Field trips
Ball games
Camp
The Beach

Traditionally over 95% will finish Qual, 5% will not.

In Qual you are working alone and must assume responsibility!

In college you will have assignments and time frames to finish them...

In a job, you will have work to complete by a certain time...

If you don't pay your taxes on time there are heavy penalties...

The main objective of Big Chem is to teach Chemistry. However, our second objective is to teach kids to become serious students. Bootcamp for College is no joke. When you finish this course, it is expected that you will be ready for the university environment and/or to hold a job.

Responsibility is one of Life's Lessons that kids must learn before entering the cruel "real world".

In spite of my strong attempts to get all to "keep on top of it", some will ignore me and will learn "the hard way" that "real life" makes it's demands and they must be met.

It would be a serious oversight for us teachers if we allowed students to graduate under the false impression that requirements and deadlines are not for real and can be ignored.
